Chirac Rages as Oil Threatens Atlantic Coast
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2003Jan3.html
BORDEAUX, France (Reuters) - France's Atlantic coast could be swamped with oil from the sunken tanker Prestige within days after high winds tore up an oil slick out at sea, authorities said on Friday.
"An oil slick that drifted to La Rochelle is being broken into millions of small pellets by winds and currents," said the prefect of the southwestern Aquitaine region, Christain Fremont.
"If these winds continue to blow this pollution will arrive on a vast scale very soon, perhaps even this weekend."
Blobs of oil have already washed up on Atlantic beaches in the Landes region near Bordeaux, southwest France

Agreed this is a hideous tragedy but you would think he might have considered this before he forced the damaged ship farther out to sea where storms caused it to break-up and sink.
Do you think it was the captains fault ot that of spain and portgual for not assisting the distressed ship?
-
Well I don't think that spain could have prevented the ship from sinking but the captain could have saved the ship if he would have repaired it sooner.
Did the crew make it off the ship?
-
|The|Specialist they were refused entry into a safe harbour because it might endanger their fishing industry. Although the ship was leaking it would not have sunk.
the crew were all helicoptered off long before it sank.

Tedob1,
Mmmmm... it's really difficult to say whom the fault is. Maybe all of them could be considered as... "culprits"? Well, it doesn't matter now, the "big" mistake has already been done and the only one harmed once again is the ocean and all within it... and the old ship too. :D
Bye.
