With Jupitermedia Corporation now the new owners, you should have known it was only a matter of time. I believe they mentioned that the advert's would be coming back shortly after they bought the site from JP.
Cheers:
It was explained when Jupiter Media bought the site they would be bringing banner ads w/ them :) Guess they did.

You are right I really should have known better, but I guess I just hoped that the Banner Free Surfing would remain...*sigh* Thanks for the quick answer, guess I will just have to pull out the old hosts file...

access list 1 deny 63.236.18.118...works for me
We were testing banners today, as you probably noticed. We will indeed be using banners on the site at some point in the near future, but we will keep them as unobtrusive as possible.
It would be nice to keep the "banner free surfing" for people with enough points. Surely they only make up a small proportion of the traffic on AO, hence will not impact the advertising revenue much.Quote:

That's how JP did it and it would seem a shame if everyone had to have banners.
There are several ways to rid the web of banners and pop-ups/unders...Quote:

I always thought... if I'm going to buy something, I know where to get it.
Before I buy anything, I'm getting opinions of people who have used it... not cause of an add that claims it to be the latest and greatest and you can't live without it.
But then again... thats just me.
I agree with that, phish....and add to that thought that even if I did want to click on a banner ad (a rarity) I wouldn't. Out of principle? Spite? Privacy? All of the above.Quote:

Mathgirl makes a good point. For my money, banners are about the biggest waste of time, space and money that you can make. I don't click on them, and I don't plan on starting. They annoy me much more than they will ever interest me. But I s'pose if it makes them feel like they're making money....that seems to be the biggest overriding concern Jupiter Media has. :)
