I get a SUN ultra box with the solaris 8 OS installed.But there is not any compiler installed on it.Now I want to install gcc,but without cc compiler,I cant make and build gcc.how can I resolve it?TKS more.(use the pre-install packet for gcc?It's too complicate)
Get the packages from Sunfreeware.com. gunzip them and pkgadd them in the normal way.
As far as I can remember, they're also on one of the supplemental discs as well (although the sunfreeware.com ones may be newer)
If you haven't already done so, it may be a good idea to install all the latest solaris patches first.
I don't think the extra packages started being supplemental (aside from netscape) until Solaris 9.
Slarty is exactly right though, they have pre-built solaris packages (and a pretty extensive list of them) that are at www.sunfreeware.com. After you get that added, have a look at what else they have, it is pretty good. Also have a look at : http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/ . Very nicely done site to help the system administrator...

EDIT: Correction, there was bash, a few other shells, and some GNU stuff like gzip, less, etc, but I am pretty sure the only additional language type thing was an older version of perl (like perl 5.0)...Solaris 9 has pretty much everything you could want...
