External Modem

I am Running Mandrake 9 at the time.And seeing as though my modem is not compatible with linux , my neighbor gave me an external modem.It's A zoom 14.4 :rolleyes:.But anyways i hooked it up to the serial port and powered on the system.I watched the system boot up and it didn't ask me if i wanted to configure any new hardware or not.Im positive everything is hooked up correctly.But I looked at the system logs and i found that it had detected new hardware in the serial port.But how else would i configure it ?

not much config need, just get your mincom program, or ppp client to talk at com1 assumeing the modem is a standard type it should accept AT commands that the PPP or mincom talks.
