Unix simple question

How do u pipe two commands? like what is the charachter to do it.? thanx.

| is the symbol your looking for.

eg: ls | less

This will pipe the ls command through the less command.

The command to pipe is pipe "|" without the quotes for example cat hello.txt | grep hello will search the file hello.txt for hello

ls -all /dev | more

Or , lets say your not sure if your friend is logged onto his box or not , you may have to be root to do this. who | grep friend. This searches for the username "friend" that is logged on.
