It had been suggested in another thread that maybe the wmd have not been found due to, um, other eventualities. Now after seeing that the export of iraqi oil could not go ahead legally until the un weapons inspectors declared it a free zone the sanctions are lifted. Does anyone else see the irony? the other agenda?

You mean how that was a unanimous vote? Yeah, i believe it even gives the coalition the ability to use Iraqi oil money to fund reconstruction. Not only that but the French, Russian's, and German's didnt want to be seen as the one's standing in the way of food and supplies heading to the Iraqi people.

Yup, you are correct that the business interests of France & Russia are protected under the amended resolution. To quote from the news reports, Iraq's massive debts will be dealt with by multilateral systems such as the Paris Club :eek: - which means that Iraq will have to repay all its debts to France & Russia.Quote:

Russia's dealing were mainly above board, although they did do very well out of the 'oil for food' program, and also have massive debts which they wish to have repaid.
France is in a different position, as some of its dealings with the previous regime are very questionable.
All in all quite a statement that money exercises such hegemony over world affairs. What is more, none of the group involved in this has any shame whatsoever.
maybe it should be called the un special interest council.
