Is there any to bypass the windows xp pro passwords i got a used laptop and it was password protected the user account at login screen and the administartors account also.
I was wondering if there is a way to bypass it with out having to format and reinstall.

Get a hold of the previous owner, ask him for it.
Yeah, just log on (with the existing password) and then change it to whatever you want.

That's the fun thing about used hardware, people usually never remember (or know to) format/reload the thing before they sell it and give it away. That's a security risk in itself when you think about it, because of personal documents and such which could have anything in them. Social Security numbers, phone numbers, contact information, passwords to whatever, ATM account numbers, etc.
But unless you can get the password off of the user who owns that account, you are pretty much stuck with a good format reload with whatever OS you own or whatever CDs might have come with the computer. But if you wanted to be nice to the people who owned it, you should probably just format/reload it anyway so you don't end up going through all of their personal documents if there are any.

AcidDriveHB....even alot of the HDD drives for sell on eBay arent formatted...or just partitioned wrong to make it look like its formatted. I read on some news sites a couple months ago where supposedly u could recover formatted data somehow. Crackers would buy old HDD's from flea markets or eBay or garage sells and then just salvage the old data and there they'd have some credit card numbers or personal data. It was supposed to be the new way of Identity theft but i havent heard anything more of it.
Yeah that's true, you can do that. You really do have to be careful who you are selling hard drives too. I wouldn't ever just sell it to someone I didn't know without really making sure the data was gone. That's why I don't sell any data storage devices on eBay or at garage sales or anything.
If people were smart though they would use a utility that would zero the drive, and then write junk data on the disk, then format it again. I have a utility that does that (along with 25 passes, etc). Data can't be recovered if there is other data written over that file on the drive.

Yeah, you can do these things or you can get yourself a copy of raw write for windows http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm and make an NT/2000 password recovery floppy from the image on this site:

Not sure but, wouldn't removing the bios battery for like 5 minutes erase all data?
For BIOS yes, that is usually how BIOS can be cleared if the BIOS reset jumper can not be found. Though the problem with laptops is, it's a little hard to find the BIOS battery or disconnect it due to the design of the boards. But pulling the BIOS battery will do nothing to the actual data on the hard drive itself. All informaiton is stored on there magnetically, not stored in powered curcuits like BIOS.
