Ports? What Ports?
Well Maybe i am a newbie, thought i knoew what i was doing but now i need some help.
Im scanning my server and i see the following list of open ports and i would like to block them using TCP/IP Filtering but i dont know what they do can anyone help?

1080
8080
135 netbios?
445
I also have my SQL HTTP & Remote Admin POrts open but i can deal with those, in this small network the server has two nic's with the one attached to the cable modem set to use internet connection sharing to let the other machines connect to the internet through the serever. would shutting any of these ports off diable my sharinig? Help...................

Thank You very much do you think if i shut any of these down it will hinder the internet con sharing?

Checking and thinking will let you know when I find the answer In the mean time I would leave them alone. or you can send microsoft a email they can help you out I mean after all they are the ones who wrote it :)

Do a search through the forums for "Active Ports". I posted a link to the tools some time ago.
It will tell you what application is opening up each port on your server....

DO YOU HAVE A FIREWALL???
What are you doing with all these services running on a computer attached to your network? You should have that computer in a DMZ not multi-homed into your network. Use another computer for a gateway...maybe with ISA on it or if thats too much Tiny Firewall pro only...and harden it. Better yet if you can afford one a hardware firewall
