Making an OS

I have been wanting to make an Os for sometime now. I want it to be linux/unix based. the problen is is that i havent found any good websites to aid me in it. I know about www.linuxfromscratch.org but i kinda dont like the sound of it. would anyone happen to have any suggestions on another good site?
