Normally you can always install an extra (new) kernel afterwards.
Just make sure you configure it well and you remake your lilo (/sbin/lilo - that is if you use lilo , LOL).
Don't delete the old one, so if the new kernel get s ****ed up you always can go back to the old one, just rename it.
Good luck,
The new kernel contains patches and drivers for newer devices and extra...
So the difference is that u get those new stuff and nothing else.
:)
I'm pretty sure that nowadays you can upgrade the kernel via RPG packages...which makes things a whole lot easier. I know with FreeBSD you can upgrade via RPG....haven't played around with Redhat in awhile, let me know if this helps.
dont want so sound as a dumb as it is but wt is an " RPG "..huh ??
I think disc0rd meant RPM packages.
Simple typo.
I have RH9 running on my box, but I have a problem. When I use "up2date" 50% of the time the new kernel does not completely download/install. So when I try to compile the video drivers for it via nvidia install, it tweaks. Missing kernel header/source. The other half of the time it works, naturally. When I download and install it[RH9 upgrade] it never gives an error. A penny or so for your thoughts?
