when i hit print my cpu shuts off, what the hell could that be, sounds like a trojan, maybe my trojan program ain't working? very pissed and confused, also whn it shuts off and you try to turn it back on it won't cut on for a long time and it makes a loud screeching noise, any and all replys would be great.
how come my messages don't pop on the main screen no more?
The hardware forum seems to be removed from showing up on the main page, I don't think it's a trojan that causes the problem, further than that I have no clue. But I really do believe it's a hardware problem (or driver problem maybe?)

What was the last thing you installed on your machine before this started happening? Did you change any drivers or settings? Install new hardware? (sounds like might be reconfigure of the keyboard -- which may or may not be a trojan).
Do you have AntiVirus software installed? Have you checked for any known trojans by using a utility like TheCleaner by Moosoft?
ok thanks, I'll try a few things, i still think it's a heradware/driver prob too. and thanks for letting me know why they weren't showing up, if it helps, i can cut the digital camera on and it shuts down too lol!! **** sucks, both conected to usb port? any usb suggestions?? thanks
Just out of curiosity - what OS are you running?
What type of printer is it? Have you tried going into the Control Panel, deleting the Printer, uninstalling any special drivers/software for the printer, shutting down your system, then reinstalling? As Ms. Mittens pointed out, you should look at whatever was done to your system right before you began having these problems. The 'loud screeching' coming from your printer sounds like a motor, belt or fan which may be going out, have some type of obstruction or possibly has a loosened connection of some sort. Without knowing the type of printer . . . I can't get any more specific. Was the printer moved, dropped or knocked over/around recently?

Where did he say it was his printer? I thought it was his box. And if the box is making that kind of noise, might be worthwhile to open it and listen carefully when it shuts down to determine what is causing the sound. Could be cables caught or fan rubbing or .. anything.. Or is the sound coming from the OS? (bad speakers, bad sound card)Quote:

Sorry, Ms. Mittens, you're right . . . it is the computer system making the screeching sound - going by how the post is written. Basically, if you replace "printer" with "computer system" . . . what I said could still hold true. But, as you point out, taking the case cover off to determine what is causing the sound should be first thing to do. Although . . . I believe the sound is being heard when the system restarts and not during shutdown - at least that's how I'm reading it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
david244us - When you say the system won't 'cut on for a long time' - what is a long time and by "cut on" do you mean 'come on' or 'start'? How old is your power supply unit? If the digital camera and/or printer are recent additions to your computer system, have you checked to ensure the PSU can handle the extra load? Based on the assumption that you mean the system is slow in restarting after the abrupt shutdown and the screeching noise - listen to the PSU on restart. If the screeching isn't coming from there, you should be able to determine where the noise is coming from if you follow Ms. Mittens advice regarding removing the case cover. To be safe, make sure the computer and power supply unit are turned off and unplug the PSU as well, before attempting to remove the case cover.

Sounds like some kind of temperature related problem perhaps? When you print, you are putting extra work on the processor.
I would follow the advice given, and check with the case off (please be very careful, you are unlikely to harm yourself but it is easy to kill your PC stone dead!)
1. Check that all fans are clean.........get the lint (fluff) out of them and that they seem to run OK
2. Make sure that there are no cables interfering with the blades
3. Power up and down and up......listen for "funny noises"
4. Get a nice complex screen up and hit the "print screen" button....what happens?
5. Check the processor for leaking thermal paste.....usually white gunk coming out at the bottom of the heatsink.
6. Earth (ground) yourself, and touch the top of the HDD..........does it hurt? if so then your HDD may be on the way out due to heat problems.
7. Run scandisk/diskcheck with surface scan on........it will take a while.....if it reports bad sectors then your HDD might be falling apart mechanically/physically.
8. Disconnect printer (physically) then try to print something. This is to test that it is/is not something to do with the PC printer interface. If you still get the problem then the problem is with your PC, if not, it is with the printer?
Just a few ideas to be going on with :)

Did you run a scandisk to see if there is any harddrive issues? if so try running FDISK /mbr, this can fix alot of problems. Next is the usb cable damaged in any way? USB cables can cause so many problems. Are you sure the sound is coming from your system and not the printer? can you tell us what message is displayed in the Blue screen of death? I think it sounds more like a driver issue or a resource conflict to me, but it could also be a bad usb port if the same thing happens with both devices.
