my dad has downloaded some music on his computer at work
hes filled about 60 gigs of his 100 gig hdd at work
he is going to back them up on an 80 gig external hdd so he can listen to them at home and work
he wants to no if win 98 will recognize the hdd or is it too big?
Win 98 should recognize it. He will probably have to install the drivers so the computer will recognize it though.
some bios's do have hard drive size limitations but these are generally for internal drives..
I agree with cheyenne's assessment.. with the drivers supplied, should be no problem.

The bios limitation is mostly a thing of the past. Win 98 would ignore what the bios told it anyway, with Fat32 wasn't the largest drive capability in Tbytes?
I beg to differ fourdc.. what info/link do you have to support your claim ?
yes, there are overlay programs by a manufacturer which reside a small partiton of a drive that will overcome certain restrictions.. but it won't make up for bios that won't support the full capacity.

So that where that 137gb number comes from.
I bought an 80gb drive today. Maxtor uses the same box for a lot of their drives. There was a warning on the box concerning 137gb and needing a PCI card to drive one.
I stand corrected, I confused the OS's acceptance of a large drive instead of the bios.
I also referred to my experience back during the 2 gb limitation (1024 cylinders), we would just use larger drives and the OS (QNX) would sort them out.
