My friend is partioning his hd to duel boot linux and windows xp but he claims that he has to reformat his hd before partioning. Is this true? He claimed it wont let him partion without reformating. I've never done it so im looking for some help and maybe a link to a really good tutorial on partioning and installing linux. Thanks for the help in advance.

parted is another option (on a bootdisk)

I'm not sure if knoppix or fire bootable iso's have parted on them.
