Good link . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkele...e_Distribution . I like BSD, I like ports and I like packages, w/ mustard uh huh. . . another that describes the differences b/w the two, http://www.dwheeler.com/secure-progr...O/history.html.

You can d/l http://mirrorlist.freebsd.org/FBSDsites.php, but you can get a copy of FreeBSD for a bit more than the cost of a few cd's and s/h. Well worth it in my opinion.
It's not the same kernel. The Linux kernel has absolutely nothing to do with *BSD. It even works differently.
The *BSDs are direct descendants of the one and only original AT&T UNIX. Linux is a kernel build from scratch by Linus.
I'm a long time FreeBSD user. Once you get a taste of it you'll forget about Linux ;)
Mmm, I am still exploring the world of FreeBSD, it seems nice. But i just cant get it to install properly on my notebook, why your notebook you might wonder. Well since thats like my OS / instalation test station.Quote:

If you post your problem(s) in the *nix security section I (and probably a few others) will try to help you. Did you check if your hardware is supported? Or are you having trouble with XFree? (if you have problems with X you can also look at Linux sites as X is the same).Quote:
