mysql phpbb2

im having trouble installing phpbb2 on slackware 9. I've installed sucessfully on a windows box, but im having trouble on slackware. I have php and mysql installed successfully, but mysql might not be configured correctly. After the first install page, it tells me it cannot connect to server. I think that the mysql server isnt started, or something. Anything im missing here? I'a newb with mysql and slack, Thanks

Found an error message, when I start the mysqld daemon, it starts up, then says mysql ended right after. help please! thanks

What is the exact error message?
