I want to write a CD to give to one of my friends.
I want him to not be able to copy the CD as a whole. e.g diskcopy

That is going to be a tough one, seeing as how major companies can spend millions on copyright protection and then people can just use Alcohol 120% or clone cd on them.

IMHO the only way is to give him a blank CD...........probably keep him amused for hours :p

I found out how to do it.
A little hex editing does the trick
1. Create an ISO of your CD
2. Hex edit it upto 900mb.
3. burn the iso back to disk.
when you try and copy the cd which you write it detects 900mb on the disk (740mb disk) and refuses to copy.
That will do.
What is stopping them from opening the cd in explorer, selecting all files (including hidden/system), copying them to a folder and then burning their own CD?Quote:

I have to do this a lot to backup my games.
That is a neat little trick though. :)
I used copy killer which seems to stop the cd spinning if you try and use its files. I put these in the setup directory in amongst my files used by my setup but since my setup will never read them it works fine.
