Norton antivirus had detected a virus on my computer and says it is unable to repair this file. it is called W32.HLLW.Gaobot.gen it says it is a high risk. I've not got a clue about computers so any help would be appreciated.

Try booting up in safe mode and then rescanning.
Safe Mode -- Should be given an option to press something like F8 during startup (I'm assuming you're on Windows?).
You can find info about it and how to remove it at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...aobot.gen.html Hope this helps.
it cant repair the file because its a virus and nothing more. if it were to remove the virus there wouldnt be anything left. theres nothing there to repair so as long as its quarantined your ok.
if it were a word doc, spread sheet or exe that had become infected it could be repaired but theres no way to repair a virus.
