Where did you run into the hash? What's the context of it (e.g., hash for application verification, shadow passwords, etc.)
that's the problem, i dont know...
i've deciphered a dat file, and one of the lines is this hash, this hash is meant as a password, but not directly for authentication, or a shadow password file , it's just that hash i need to crack, but problem is i´ve tried it with jtr, lcrack and md5crack, but i figured out very soon, that it isn't md5, or des, i don't think it is sha1 either, although i'm not totally sure of that...
b.t.w. this is for a challenge i'm doing.... not something illegal or anything....
hum, hashs are designed to be one directional.
however, they can be poor on implementation.
can you tell use more about that? what software did, what kind of information it was protecting?
it will help to find a specific tool
i've got it from a file, i've attached the file, the "encrytion" of the file is simple, a=b, b=c etc etc
and where is the string in the file?
well, i've opened the above file with a demo of the forensic toolkit, and when you explore this file, you see a file/folder test in it.. in test there is a bunch of text, including the hash....
