ensuring a secure credit card purchase

yesterday I purchased something online using a credit card.The credit card doesnt belong to me,it belongs to a relative of mine who allowed me to use it.However I'm really concerned that the number doesnt get hacked.The website I purchased from is using a SSL.And I've deleted the info from registry where I think the credit card number was stored (somewhere in Protected Storage).I scanned my computer for viruses at Housecall some days back and no viruses were found.I'm going to scan it again soon.Anything else I can do to ensure that the info is not hacked?

Hope and pray. That's about all you can do at this point. It all depends on the site you bought from. Where exactly did you buy from? Their webservers security is everything at this point.

Yeah don't make purchases online with your credit card. Use a Paypal account and transfer money whenever you need to use em. Don't use credit cards that do not belong to you neither.

I purchase anywhere from $20 - $5000 online a month.

I have never had a problem yet, of course I use newegg.com and ohter well known sites so theirs that as much of a chance of my CC info getting out as their could be with other sites.

it is a way to do...

but if u still want to use credit card,
1. make sure the site is really "a valid site" where it is trustable and owned by a real company.
2. make sure the site encryption technique is powerful such as 64/128 bit of encryption for da transactions. Transactions security is really important.
3. make sure there is no keylogger, password logger,.. etc spying on your pc.

Don't you use your company credit card for that ;).

If it is a well known company such as bestbuy staples etc you shouldn’t have anything to worry about, but if you are still worried about it have the owner of the card check his/her recent purchases on the web or call the credit card company to see if any unauthorized items were purchased. That is what I would do it may help you relax a bit.

Mmmmmm Besides ensuring the company doesn't leakout your credit card info. You also should ensure no valuable are store in your PC.

For me, whenever i do online transaction i use bootable CD with no hardisk attached to my computer.
That way i ensure nothing is left on my PC for hacker/ virus/ trojen. I believe that is the most low tech, most reliable way.

I'd be willing to bet money there is a better chance the companies server will get hacked (maybe even by google, see IronGeek's thread on that) than the chance of your computer being hacked and the CCN being stolen from there. For one, CCN's are a LOT easier to find in a sql database than they are buried in the registry or in some .dat file somewhere in your .tmps.

I cant use paypal,I live in a country which isnt supported by paypal.The company which I bought from has a pretty good reputation.I believe i dont have a keylogger or any sort of spyware on my computer.
What is your opinion about the company?
I dont believe in hoping and praying.I believe in doing something more practical.
