I'm not sure what you mean.
Why would patches from AV companies be untrusted?
In a normal production environment it's normal to test a patch on a test machine before putting it on a production machine. This is done to make sure the patch doesn't break anything critical. Is that what you mean?
rajunpl , you really need to straighten out your way of asking questions !
Anyway i can't believe that firms like McAfee or Symantec would ruin their reputation by giving out bad updates. I'd take one of these AV-scanners and use their updates. You must be ok then.
Btw i like your sig, how true ...
thnx shreddie,
Yeah I mean any patch, If you had to test, how would you do that?
Install the patch on a test system; the test system is an exact copy of your production machine. Test if all your applications still work as they should. Voila. Patch tested.
If the patch is to fix a bug make sure you can reproduce the bug. Use the same test system, install the patch on that. Try to reproduce the bug. If the bug is gone the patch is good. Just to make sure, test all other applications to make sure the patch didn't break something else.
You can now safely install the patch on your production machine and get some sleep.
How nice, Thank you sir
