why don't the traditional DOS games work with WinXP
(EMS allocation error) ???
Usually its a RunTime error experienced by fast machines. however, this seems to be memory related. EMS = Expanded Memory Specifications.
so it seems the game is trying to load memory services designed for dos, which dont exist anymore.
also XP does NOT have any dos systems. unlike win98 etc. i dont have time right now, but the ways to get the games to work are quite simple.
What game is it out of curiousity.
EMS stands for Expanded Memory Specification, which was the DOS way of using more then 640Kb of mem..
Windows XP doesn't realy support it well..
The best way to go about running dos games is making a bootable DOS disk (prefferably CD) and playing your games off that..
http://www.dosgames.com/xphints.php has some hints for running dos games on xp..
Some people like dosbox (note, this is not the windows cmd box) and Abandon Loader.. But they do take up a lot of mem/proc power !!
Thank you. Your feedback back was very helpful and it was on an xp that was my error
I think you have mistaken this old thread with your thread here
No problem realy, it's just that some members dislike people digging up old threads..
