New iPods -- I WANT!
If you haven't heard, Apple is coming out with a new iPod.. And I definately want one (in case anyone has idears of a Christmas gift to get me! :D). The idea of a small viewable screen to show photos that you store is great. I've used my existing iPod in this fashion -- storing over 600 pictures plus AVI files -- while doing a bike tour. Added to that the space -- over 60GB! -- and given that 1 GB == roughly 1 day, there'd be enough room for music and pictures and other stuff.

You know MsMittens, that you can get a small generater that runs on your spinning wheels? Then you could mount a laptop on your handlebars and carry a backpack with a satilite uplink/downlink in it and wear a hat with the parabolic on it. Of course you would have to keep your head aligned with whatever satilite you are using.
The new ipod does sound like a good idea. Being able to preview what photos you are storing, and to have them accessable while touring would allow you to share them with others with out having a computer to download them to.

Actually, I wouldn't go that far. :D However, I'm contemplating this as my next big purchase: Panasonic CF-W2. I have a Toughbook Cf-48 and it's great! The W2 goes further with a 7.5 hour battery life, CD/DVD Combo burner, no fan (the case is a heat sink and the material -- part of the toughbook legacy -- stays cool to the touch) along with a low weight (under 3lbs). This would be a perfect companion for me to go on the road (one of my bicycle tours I have planned is to one day to Toronto - Tampa - Texas over a month and a half period). Many campgrounds (particularly KOA) provide wireless access. Add to that close proximity to towns, I'm sure I'll find some "access" somewhere.
To make things even nifty a solar charger for the laptop and/or ipod would ensure almost complete independence. :)
I still want the new iPod however. It just looks cool! :)

I'd wait a while on it. Isn't it like $500. The first time they came out with the 5gb players I got one for lke $400 and now I feel so jipped.
