Does anyone know where I can find FreeBSD, because I am connected on a network and for some reason can't access any ftp sites, and I've tried searching for some http sites but haven't found any, the only ones I have found are older versions. The ISO for it on linuxISO.org doesn't work either. Does anyone know where I can get it from (an http site), and obviously a new version, because I'd like to try it out.

I have already downloaded it, but just 1 more thing: can you get virii from them? I mean it could say it is the FreeBSD ISO when in fact it contains a deliberate M$ virus, so in fact I'm answering my own question. What I want to know is how often it happens, please.

Burn the ISO to a CD then browse it in Windows Explorer and see if it looks legit. I really doubt that it would have a virus though.

Here's the list that's listed from freeBSD. Plus a link to the main site that led to the list of servers and has an abundance of inof if you need it later. And I'll toss the guide to burning ISO's and checking md5sums too. If you check the md5sum it'll save you some time, maybe some headache, and maybe a couple of cds.

Edit: And here's a guide to installing freeBSD5.0 from Gore. But I believe they are past 5.0 so I'm not sure if there are any changes in the install.

Never seen it happen. You can check, however, the MD5 hash that is often placed with many of the ISOs using this tool, MD5sum. This is the Windows port of the MD5sum tool found in *nix. Basic usage is MD5sum <filename>. This will generate an MD5 hash and you can compare it with the one at the download site.Quote:
