All the victims were shot in the back of the head, Iraqi police said. The victims had their hands crossed behind their heads, said Lt. Ali Jawad Kadhim from the nearby Mandali police station.

al-Zarqawi is Jordan (which is pretty weird, since Jordan must be the only country out there knowing the meaning of democracy).

And that's 50 more Cheney can add to the alliance.

It's sad... all of it is... the killings, the cover-ups, the politics,... all of it.

The sad thing in my mind:

Iraq, it's people are presented with the ability to form a parliment or government of their choosing within the confines of what is acceptable to the United States and arguably the United Nations. However the people don't want it, their choices are to fight the illegitamacy of the government because it was put in place by the US and they are too stupid to see beyond that contraint and grow with time.

If I wasn't so soft hearted I would say **** them and pull the plug. Except I know the radicals would win and Iraq would become another Afganistan, a wastland of thugs in the disguise as men of Allah. Peaceful men who beat their wives and children into submission and kill any who stand in the way of biblical text and their interpretation.

One aspect I'm not sure you've looked at here is the 'ignorance' of the masses - Consider this, and I know a free people aren't prisoners, nor are they horses, but...

A prisoner sits in his prison for say...50 odd years. He finally gains parole. He goes out into town, tries to get a job, but at his age the best he can get is greeter at a WalMart or somesuch... Lives in a halfway house and tries to get his life in order. He is in awe of the technology changes. He lives in a world he cannot understand, and doesn't want to really. He wants to return to what he knows - the only life he's known for half a century - so he either commits another crime heinous enough to get him thrown back in, or he commits suicide. It's called institutionalization, and it takes place every day.

A horse will run back into a burning barn, simply because that barn it knows to be it's safe haven. Much to the disparagement of the rancher, the horse dies unless it's kept tied hard outside while the barn burns. A few days later, the horse will *still* return to the burned down stalls and try to rest there.

Now back to the Iraqis. Much as we really shouldn't be over there at this point, it still seems to be falling to us to help try to keep the peace while this government is set up. Unfortunately it's a losing proposition since the Iraqis, much like the prisoner and horse, prefer what they're used to. Most of them are rural tribesmen, and prefer the dictatorship of a tribal ruler simply because that's the only thing they know that works for them. Now please don't get me wrong. I'm gung-ho as hell on killing terrorists and halting it where it stands. I (like Neg so eloquently put it) honestly believe Hussein had ties with al quaida, but that really matters not. What does matter is what the majority of these people will do, and what decisions we'll have to reach (do we walk away and take the loss, or do we make the whole place a giant glass parking lot? {joking here btw but the choices will get near to that point eventually if things don't change and fast }).

It really sucks that 50 of their fresh trained troops got shot. It sucks even worse because it appears to me that at least the educated few are attempting to teach the rest of the country a better way, and certain extremists (who profited quite handsomly from the old government btw) wish to halt it and are doing everything in their power to do so. It sucks worse still because I know our sons and daughters are over there with their arses on the line trying to help these people, and our own country is divided on which way they should go. I thank the good Lord above the one election year I served through wasn't during wartime...

What really pisses me off is how the US military treated the situation. They know that Iraq is a hell hole and they just let the new trainees ride off into the sunset without an armed escort or even just letting them have their guns. A soldier with out his tools is somewhat worthless especially when presented with an enemy with weapons. I think even here in the US they would escort the trainees and even if they didn't whos going to attack them? rednecks? I feel sorry for the soldiers families. Most of them where probably there to put food on the table and now everythings gone. I hate the current situation and lets hope we become more steadfast no matter who gets elected in the upcoming election.

What happens when whoever wins, does it all stop??? no, of course not... they (everyone from terrorists to US parliament) will always find something to start a war over. How many parties would even know IF they won and when it was over???

Its all just a waste of life, and the sooner they all wake up to themsevles the better.

One thing is left out of this situation. The US troops MUST stand aside at times and let the Iraqi security forces make decisions. In alot of areas they are commanded by the Iraqis in a measure where they are forced to stand down until asked or ordered to assist.
