Hi All,
I have few queries on Windows 2000/XP ghosting with Norton Ghost.
1. When an installation is ghosted from one HDD to another, what happens to the SID of the source installation. Does it get copied. If SID is getting copied, will it create problems when both machines are added to domain. Or does Windows recognize this and change the SID.
2. What can be the problems if an NTFS disk is ghosted.

1. Yes and yes unless you have ghost walk or you physically change the name of the
machine once you ghost it.

I believe there will be a conflict between the two machines with XP OS, unless it is a corporate addition disk. 2000 will not have an issue for the SID if the domain license is per-server not per-seat.

Ofcourse i have to change the system name after ghosting to add it to domain. but when the name is changed, does the SID change automatically/
I am talking about XP corporate licenses.
No it wont but dont take my word for it. I just know you can use Corp keys as many times u want unlike the home and professional. Corps get audited once a year so if they have too many copies of xp they get into trouble, thats why you dont need to register Corp OS's. Again like I said, "the server needs to be running in a per-server licensed domain".
