memory dumping program

Ok, hey. I am kinda newb so plz go easy. I need a program for win xp that will cause a crash, or maybe a program that will allow me to look through my memory. I am interested in analyzing some programs to gain an understanding, but I need to be pointed in the right direction. I tried the "CrashOnCntrlScroll" registry key, but it is not there. Someone help me ouy a little bit ?

WinHex will allow you to look through the memory of a specified process...
if you have the full (paid) version you can even write in that memory directly.
