I've gotten it 2 times. Different places each time.
One I think went to secverify.wamu-online-bank.com/ which redirects to the real site after logging your email.

Yeah, I make it a point to report these to [email protected].
Does anybody actually know if a human being reads these? I mean, I hate to sit there and write this 2 page email if only a machine (or a human being that might as well be a machine) reads it. For example, the email I just sent out:
Does this usually fall on deaf ears?! I hate to sit here and waste my time (which I'm pretty sure is ultimately happening), but a part of me is optimistics and hopes that a person with enough sense to forward that email to a webmaster or someone of importance actually reads this email.Quote:
Dear Washington Mutual Security Representative,
Below you will find a Forwarded email I received that I believe is of
fraudulent nature. There are several factors that make me believe so, but
the most important is that all the links point to
www.squarepoint-pointcarre.com, though they have a washingtom mutual
address displayed on screen.
If I may make a suggestion: Please disallow external image linking from
your website to other sites. One of the major ways scammers employ to make
it appear as if the email is coming from a legitimate source is to display
the company's logo in their fraudulent emails and webpages. Besides making
scams appear credible, the scammers are also using your bandwidth (that
you pay for) to do so.
Your webmaster should know how to disable this feature. This will render
many fraudulent emails less likely to be confused with the real website
(at least temporarily), and will make it more expensive for them generate
them in the future (by forcing the scammers to pay for their own
bandwidth).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at this
email address. I make every effort to not only report as many fraudulent
emails as I can to make online banking safer for the less tech-savvy Wamu
customers, but also suggest ways to reduce the impact of scammers.
Thank you very much for your time,
Am I wasting my time? Do they ever listen? Are there perhaps any other things (such as liability) I should be aware of when sending an email like this?
Thanks all,
-ik
I've actually found that banks and such are listening when you send them a notice. Keep in mind that you might be in a different time zone or that they may not have someone dedicated to this --- yet. I'm quite sure that Visa, eBay, etc., all have dedicated persons due to volume.
solafide, if you can post the email next time (with headers and without your personal info) that would be great. I know when I notified WAMU of ones I've received they got it down within a 6 hour period (pretty good IMO -- esp for a weekend).
Sigh....
These guys are really getting hammered. The recent one I received. Note the graphic! Notice sent off to WAMU
