ive never worked with it but it looks like you'll find everything you'll need on their site
Harden the server the same way you would harden any server you deployed within your DMZ. Keep it patched and watch your IDS. A good write-up on the blackberry security can be found Here:

BlackBerry Server doesn't required to open Inbound port but only Output Port (Port 3109). To be honest with you, BlackServer didn't like me closing all port except 3109 on my firewall. If you put your BlackBerry server in DMZ and your mailserver is located in your LAN, be ready to open all TCP port from your DMZ to your Emailserver.
