I hate the ****ing software. I don't swear often... but that **** gets on my nerves!
Thankfully I've got a vpn setup at home so I can surf unsensored at work and nobody can see what I'm seeing. :)
I was recently added to a new group that blocks me from "file download server".
Now... as an admin... how the hell am I supposed to do my ****ing job if I can't get to the **** I need.
I'm complained to mgt about it... they just laugh and I can't get removed.
Their excuse "You need written permission from the IT department to download files..."
I AM the IT department!
Easy enough... I switched IP addresses with my boss. ;)
Now he is blocked from everything and I can get to whatever I want.
We'll see how funny it is when he can't do his job...

Are you kidding me! ROFL. We're a two man IT shop. Well... one man. me.
He doesn't want to do any more work than he has to.
To download a file, I have to ssh into a remote box use links or wget to download the file, and then ssh it back to the box I need it on. Now it takes me twice the time to download a file... Talk about a loss of productivity. websense is supposed to "increase productivity" because people aren't surfing non work related sites all day.
Oh, but no worries... I still get 30 minutes of "quota time" to visit sites like wired.com or news.com because they are "entertainment"

I think that from now on I'll just sit there and play solitare until he answers my email and downloads the file(s) I need and puts them on a shared drive for me.

I can see filtering me from porn and adult and etc.
But to block me from entertainment, file download servers, etc.

Actually, the workarounds are pretty difficult UNLESS you have a very technical user (or in phis' case, IT folks). Websense, annoying as it can be, is pretty robust. 'Feature rich' is the sales puke line, I think. I mean, honestly, how many NON-technical types are gonna have their own VPN gateway setup outside the company perimeter? ;) Besides present company, of course...
BTW, collegehumor.com is great...and is on the long list of tasteless sites.

Yup... its managers who locked me out. I don't have access to it either.
It all started when he applied a patch. He's like "Hey... go out to some porn site and see if you can access it. So I did. I could. The next thing was... oh... let me put you in another group. Now try it.
Yup.. it blocked me... now put it back!
Never put it back... :(
