Interesting read. I definately agree that this last year there was an explosion of ad and popup programs. Our workstation techs spend between 60-80 % of their time cleaning that kind of stuff off of employee's desktops. (yes, this is taking into account that we normally just Ghost machines)
It seems to me that the AV companies are keeping up pretty well in all areas but the spyware. I think there's just so much money in it that they can't help but look the other way just a little to make that extra cheddar.
