What is this error in XP: IRQL_DRIVER_NOTLESS_THAN_EQUAL_TO.
I noticed this error bcoz of my silly sound card. What does this error technically means? Is there any way by which we can take the power of controlling hardware's resources from XP's hands to in our own hands. In otherwords, can we disable Direct Sound so that sound card is played by software buffer and not hardware buffer?
Well the details of my system.
I have a TOMATO Motherboard with Intel 810 Chipset and AC'97 Sound Card. I buyed a new ESS 1983 Sound Card to 3D liaze my sound system. First, I have disabled AC'97 in my BIOS. Then I installed the sound card. When in the same Windows Session, Windows seldom hangs or freezes. When im the following sessions i play a sound, the system freezes displaying that IRQL_..... error I have tries every sort of driver, the OEM, Microsoft provided driver, Windows 2000 Driver and God knows what not. But the problem continues. How can the driver address an invalid memory address. Yes, one thing can happen and that is that the sound card driver must be thinking that I am using an onboard ESS 1983 sound card. and this must be causing the conflict. But, The card runs fine in Windows 98 but not when I play 3D Games such as Max Payne or Sound Card Buster softwares like PowerDVD which has excellent Audio Packs. And yes, if the sound card is faulty then it shiuld not run at all. I have evern checked for a replacement from the manufacturer, but for no help. How can the driver address an invalid memory location? must be possible that the sound card driver the sound card as an onboard sound card? Please help. This is the toughest PC problem I have gone though in my computing carrer (well only 7 years long, i am myself 18 yr old :-) )
