NIC drivers
Ok, I am currently at home and Comcast just finished installing internet, yay. Luckily the modem has a USB port on it or i wouldn't be able to post this here. My problem is this: My box has a NIC but due to the way i installed Windows i don't have the drivers for it. The Nic came with the box when i bought it so i don't know what brand it is, and when i try to let the computer auto detect the drivers both on my box and on the windows update site it tells me that it cannot find any drivers. How do i go about finding out what NIC i have so i can download the drivers for it, or are there any sort of generic drivers out there for it. Not sure if it matters but it is an ethernet controller thingy.

Well...if its a compaq, dell , hp etc...go to the vendor site and plug in the model and search...should give you whats in there, or a choice.
Or ...look at the MB and get the model and do a google search and find go to the vendor and search you mb, drivers.....
Or go to the nearest computer store and buy a new nic....and use the disk it comes with ;)

if the nic is not attached to the Mobo the pull it and see what it says. If its on the MoBo then look at the model of your board and see if they have a driver. you might have the driver on the mobo disk that should have came with the computer also. If all else fails buy a new nic and install it.

try here for a scan to determine if you are missing drivers ????
I know you have to pay a membership to use the full site, but I found it easier to pay than to search ................

Or just download Everest and that will tell you...

Actually i figured it out on my own for a change, although not sure how. I pulled out the nice to see if there were any numbers to google and there were. the chipset on it had a compandy name and the physicall card had another company name on it. well i tried both of them and no luck, but after going to hp's site and typing in the pc i have i was able to dl the drivers and be on my way.
