from http://wiki.hping.org/9Quote:
The IPID is actually the id field of the IP protocol packet header. This field provides an identification for IP packets used in the process of assembling fragments: packets with the same id value are about the same datagram, so the destination host knows how to assemble this packets into the original datagram (using also other information contained in the IP header).

Integrated Policy-Based Intrusion Detection (IPID)
Currently available intrusion detection tools monitor events at a relatively low level of abstraction. Due to the large number of events that occur at that level, and due to the low abstraction level, these tools are either ineffective (by generating a large number of false negatives) or inefficient (by generating a large number of false positives). The objective of IPID is to increase both effectiveness and efficiency of these tools by relating low-level events to a smaller number of events at a high level that are meaningful to the business.

The Intellectual Property & Innovation Directorate (IPID) deals with the policy for patents, copyright (and related rights), trade marks, designs and geographical indications of origin, and co-ordinates on issues affecting both copyright and industrial property matters. We work to create an environment facilitating the effective enforcement of intellectual property rights in the UK and overseas.
Need more than an acronym...
