Don't run as root unless you need too
I've never seen one in the last 2 years of using it.
You'll see a Windows update that doesn't need a reboot before you would a Linux virii.
They are rare as crap, but not impossible, but you need to screw up a little more to actually find one.

On Linux and BSD, I don't use Anti Virus for anything but mail scanning..
I do run chkrootkit and rkhunter on a daily basis.. (cron) And get mailed if any mallware gets in..
