New system

Well, looks pretty good to me..although I would've gone for a PCI-E video card & mobo since vista is comming and it looks like the video requirements are gonna be pretty intense, also for future compatability..
My brother has that sound card, and it's pretty nice on his 510W (1000W peak) speakers..
Personally, I never thought about getting a floppy drive but some of the hardware still come with floppy drives (i find it disappointing when I see a floppy disk when i install hardware for someone).. I'm not sure if the more modern hardware still come with floppies but I think most come with CDs now..
If you plan on setting up a RAID, idk if most mobos are like this but my brothers came with a floppy to install a RAID and I think that's what WinXP setup asks for, a floppy..

The motherboard and video card are PCI Express. I had a bad link for the video card, so I fixed that.
I'm not really worried about Windows, because that will only be on there for when I need to use it. I plan on using Linux mainly, although I haven't chosen my distro yet.
RAID is an option I've considered, by my money situation won't allow for it as of yet.

hmm, question, I'm not sure of the quality of onboard ethernet cards but why are you buying a seperate one if the mobo has one already, if your tight on cash you should consider leaving that out on the other hand its up to you..
and I was actually gonna buy that DVD-RW myself, but it's black and my case is beige so I didn't get it..

Huh, I didn't catch that the motherboard had Ethernet on it. Guess I should've read just a bit closer. Thanks.

Better check all that stuff against the Hardware Compatibility Lists for Linux...
;)

That'd be a good idea.
