Good morning David,
Can you give us a bit more information?
1. What are you dual booting............'doze XP? 2000? another *nix distro?
2. What sort of drive is #3? a USB, thumb drive? or what?
3. Is the drive connected when you boot, if not, what happens if it is?
4. Do you get the same problems no matter what OS you choose to boot?
5. What is the precise error message you get?
:) Cheers, Johnno
David,
A couple of things come to mind.
FOR IDE DRIVES
Most MB's have 2 IDE ports. Hooking up 2 drives is usually child's play. When you upgrade to the third and fourth drive there are some things you have to do.
Most drives come out of the box with a "strap", (the little black thing that jumpers two pins), set for "master" or single drive.
You need to choose which drives are going to "masters" on the two IDE ports by moving that strap. The other drives have to be set as slaves.
Another option is to choose the CS position of the strap which stands for cable select. set all drives to that option and you ID the drives by where you plug them in on the cable. The drive at the end of the cable is master, the drive that plugs into the middle of the cable becomes slave.
FOR SCSI DRIVES
You have to ID the drives with straps , drive 0, drive 1 ...... You then have to put a terminator or set internal termination on the last drive. misplacing the terminator or not putting one on can give you unexpected results.
Good luck!
thanks all for the help, helping a friend out actually
What was the solution to you problem?
