Hi
I'm wondering why on one thread in particular, I'm getting two topic notifications before I look at the thread. They're usually just the same post not posts from two different people.

Hi
I'm wondering why on one thread in particular, I'm getting two topic notifications before I look at the thread. They're usually just the same post not posts from two different people.
Which thread?
The dumb user thread:
http://antionline.com/showthread.php...5&goto=newpost
Did you subscribe to the forum as well as the thread? That would account for it. Another explanation would be that you're set to auto-subcribe to any thread you post in, and then you subscribed manually as well. You can check this in user cp, list subscriptions and see if that thread shows up twice. You can also check subscribed forums in there as well. Otherwise it's just a glitch that we'd have to try and track down.
Are you subscribed to and receive email notices for any other threads?
No, it shows up once, same as all the others. I didn't do anything special when I posted it, I'm just set to receive email replies to any thread I participate in. It doesn't particularly bother me, I'm just curious as to why it should happen.
Hi Moira,
This could be a total red herring, but might it have been caused by the fact that you posted a link to the Dumb User thread in Mark Boyle's Stupid Users Should Not............. thread?
That might cause the duplication if it found unread stuff. Even though you posted in a different thread perhaps it followed the link to the original post?
:)
No, it was doing it before that.
OMG AO IS BROKEN! SOME ONE FIX IT! hah.. I'd just ignore it if its a one time thing.
Yes ... I was just curious that was all.
OK Moira,
My argument would be that this has only happened with one thread. It is the only occurrence since we updated the software in September 2006, as far as I am aware.
Looks like one of those weird database corruptions that happens with power spikes or brownouts? Maybe even a damaged micro-portion of the disk?
If it were software, I would have expected more incidents in the last 9 months, no matter how exotic the bug?
It kind of reminds me of a former member called Shrekkie (he had to change his name )
For some reason, and with no plausible explanation, it suddenly happened that when he posted to a thread it got frozen and no-one else could post to it afterwards. That was the old system, and we never found the answer.
Just hope that H.M. Revenue and Customs make a similar error in your favour (that's our IRS folks ) they will never find it....................:D
