I am speechless. there are some real sickos out there... it seems like there was a case a while back in one of these sim type games where on character was raped by another... yeah... http://www.guyrintoul.com/2007/05/08/online-rape/ just searched google for 'online rape' ... I was actually kind of scared about what might come up as I was hitting the search button :)
Yeah, I heard about this on the radio, and that issue was also brought to light.
The problem is that no actual law has been broken. There are no illegal images being used, and no real act of abuse is performed.
What the police are saying is that this indicates a likely hood to swap image and or abuse, but I guess you can't do anything on a likely hood.

Am not really sure how people can get off on avatar sex, but...
There were some cases a couple of years ago with adult sites using rendered images of a similar type. It was taken before the court (I think), but the final outcome was that because it doesn't involve actual people, it's not illegal and was protected under the Constitution.
I think the best Second Life could actually do is make it against their TOS.
