I hope you weren't trying to titillate any children with that article ;-)
Intelligent and socially backward.... that describes a lot of people I know.
My friend works as a special ed teacher, and has one kid who doesn't talk or even wipe his own ass. The same kid "hacked" into the school network and bypassed all the security in place. Personally I think the kid is normal, he just likes someone else to do everything for him.
If I could get by with it, I might.... hmmm wonder if the wife could pick up a bit more of the slack around here...
I have a 19 yo autistic son. In a lot of subjects he's light years ahead of everybody, computers anything tech. Socializing, math he's just not on the page. As far as being independent, he made Eagle Scout at 16.
He had a great internship in an IT department during his High School Vocational education but because he can't pass a certification test he can't seem to get hired, of course his interviewing skills are naught.
Tried to get him into the local community college to proceed in his technical education but some butthole in the academic community seems to think you have to know algebra to be a programmer.
Some of these kids are deep wells, give them a chance they may surprise you.
In a way I think it is like some one who is blind, they lose one sense and because of that they are able to develop there other senses far beyond that of some one who can see. What do you call an autistic person with social skills? Genius. IMO
