Hi guys,
I'm stumped! Happy christmas by the way.
I just got given a nice big iPod for christmas, so naturally I tried to download iTunes.
Now I have 80Gb of music on my pc, and don't know how to get it all into iTunes. I naively assumed that iTunes would find all my music, or give me the opportunity to either have it find all my music, or let me tell it where it is, but ooOOOoooh no.
Anyone know how I get it in there, an iPod's no use without it.

dont you like have to import them into Itunes...cause I think it may change the format...
not sure though
I dont have and Ipod...although my daughters do...and they use thier daddy's MAC to upload songs.

Well i use Ipod from last 2 years and this is a common problem which every at frist occur even me!!!!
ne ways u need to 1st connect the Ipod to the USB and open the Itunes as the itune program is running u can then find ur Ipod as a external Device in the Itune which would be empty if u see
what u gotta do is
Select all the songs which u need to put in ipod drag and drop to the music folder(defualt folder made in Itune only "in simple its the frist folder of Itune")
and now the itune will update all the songs in itune format and as this process is over
-> go to music folder
-> select all the songs in music folder
-> and then drag and drop to ur Ipod Device
and it will start transfering to the Ipod
Note: remember one thing Ipod can only keep one Library of one computer so if u put and connect it into some other computer and try to copy the songs from some other library it may cause deletion of all ur songs from the Ipod

there IS a way to convert the i-Tunes to MP3, but I don't know if you can add MP3's TO it ??
the worst part was that i-Tunes are specific to i-Pods
which is NOT what I want
I prefer to buy the CD
rip it to PC as MP3
burn it to CD in the order I prefer
as I don't like to carry in the car 'real' CD's, so I burn compilations.
also as I have the CD already, I use it as my backup, should the worst ever happen.

1. Yes we can convert Itune format to MP3 and
2. Yes we can convert MP3 to Itunes format
and the second line which i said is more easier then the
1st point which happens in seconds though no other software then Itunes itself and it just takes 5-6 secs for one songs costing to 5-6 Mbs audio
ne ways that was not the part of questions but i should answer it for back ups i think best is DVD's as per they are long lasting higher quality higher capacity and has many range of it like double layer , dual layer and now they latest one are with
Blu rays capacity 25GB - 50 GB
but for that we need a whole new reader which uptill now i m not aware of but i m browsing for one currently

I am with you there...recently had several CDs stolen out of my car....
Now I make copies and keep the originals at home.
I just make disc to disc copies...

That is true to a certain point. It is I-Pod specific by what you can upload your music to (take music from iTunes and put it on your iPod) which does suck, because you can't take music and put it on a usb flash drive or any other form of storage/music player that doesn't have the iPod software on it.Quote:

How about the question of why iTunes? From what I've read it doesn't sound like you'll be buying .AAC encoded music from the iTunes music store.Quote:

Why not use an alternative to iTunes like MediaMonkey or Winamp? Both support transfering music to an iPod. I personally have experience with MediaMonkey and it works great for a music manager/metadata editor/playlist creator/etc.
Or you can find other alternatives putting your collection on your player. A simple Google search provided this useful tip:
