Isp maxing 8mb line
Hey all
South africa monopoly telkom [url]www.telkom.co.za[url] which owns the cable lines which dsl runs on is upgrading to 8 mb in September.
Im very glad, its a huge step up for us. Must be because of the 2010 world cup that we are moving forward in the telecommunications area.
Just though I would share it with you :)

And how much will that cost?
Bandwidth limits?
:):)
-
How about throttling or traffic shaping....I believe ISPs call it "network management" in their contracts.
Yeah we will give you 8 megs but you cant use it

Well keep in mind that 8mb which = 1MB/s. Its what I have and its pretty decent, no fios tho :-S

Hey there
I have a 4 meg line atm. Get around 500 kb/s download.
anyway here are my charges.
Telephone rental - R110 incl vat (10 - 15 $) [you cant have an adsl line without a telephone line]
ADSL line - 4 meg @ R450 incl vat ($50 +/-)
ADSL account 3 gig int 30 gig local @ R300 incl vat (40 - 45 $)
There you go.
Expensive over here!

It might be expensive, but different country's money equal different amounts, plus at least it's still a step in the right direction.
I mean if they want to do some huge sporting even then they really need to uprade everything as you carn't broadcast much on a rusted up 56k line now can you. ;)
And just think now you can download your pr0n a lot quicker then before, and that's all that matters. :drink:
