WiFi e-mail

Hi,

I have one that is confusing me a lot.

I have a laptop that connects to the home network via WiFi. When Eileen or myself try to access our e-mail accounts, it does not find them and we are asked if we want to open a new e-mail account.

Plug in an RJ45 wired connection and it works just fine.

WTF? :confused:

Other connections via WiFi seem OK ............... like I can get on AO and the like???????????????

I am an old fart, so I know nothing about WiFi...........RJ11 and RJ45 are my domains :D

And before you ask............Yes, I did make sure that the clockwork motor was fully wound up!.............and my tomcat checked the engine room............ the mice are stoking like hell :lildevil:

well, you did not say what you were using for your email, but ...
are you using an Internet Security program ( like Trend ) that is switching profiles ( firewall ) when it detects the wifi is in use?

Does the url you are using to access your mail resolve to the same IP address on both the wired and wifi connections?

Check the DNS for the WiFi adapter. It could be using a different DNS or its DNS is compromised and you are getting a phishing site. Try going to the site by IP. Some phishing sites don't forward you after you attempt to log to the actual site. When I see known good credentials fail, I think phishing. I would run some malware scans also. There could be malware redirecting you to a malicious site but it is only tied to the specific network adapter. Also try different browsers or a portable browser.

Also check "Location" settings on OS' like Vista / Win 7 - when the wifi connected perhaps it was selected as a non-trusted network causing you grief.

As always, back to basics. Ensure you can ping/lookup all servers using the LAN, and then test the same pathways via the wifi.
