I would go for Dreamweaver and Frontpage. However, I encourage people to first learn raw html coding, bec. it will be very useful later on when it comes to editing.
A blessed day to all!!!!

"I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do for any fellow being, let me do it now… as I shall not pass this way again. " ~William Penn
I use dreamweaver and a program called textpad. I usually use dreamweaver for the main layout and then use the text editor for the intecrate bits!!
Dreamweaver Ultradev, without question. I haven't had any projects for a while though, so let me know if something better has come along.
Cheers,
cgkanchi
I primarily use visual interdev and think that frontpage is the devil. Notepad or someother text editor would be my trusty second.
BBEdit Light made by BareBones Software
I think the developers name says it all.
It is such a nice little text editor, I use it for HTML, C, what ever I need to do with text that is quick and dirty.
I wish I had 99 bucks to get the Pro version, that has all that nice pretty stuff where lines are colored by tag and such, so you can see if you left something hanging really easily.
But as I am poor, and need OS X, I will live with Light. (Which when I get OS X will run happily there too).

I'm a "notepad" type of guy. But notepad looks a bit 'bland' don't you agree? So I decided to search around and got this great program called CuteHTML. It's an 'advanced notepad' you might say. I love programming in raw HTML, so I use that. I have Dreamweaver though....but I usually don't use that. Come to think of it...I never use that. Thanks for reminding me to uninstall that. But for newbies, Dreamweaver is the way to go - I just prefer having TOTAL control over my webpage...in code. CuteHTML is really great with this. Has room for editing raw HTML code...and some advanced options to help the newbies along as well. Although I'm no newbie, I tend to use them quite a bit. :)
Check up on Google for it. Really great program.
I use In windows, Dreamweaver and Ultraedit 32 and In linux, fte.
As long that you never use FrontPage, this is the worse program. Add SO many line of html for nothing!
I don't do a lot of web pages but when the moment arises, I prefer Dreamweaver and Fireworks.
huh, so normally I like to be aware of every program that I have installed on my computer, but I must be slacking. I just found that I have Dreamweaver 3 installed. . . Too bad I don't use it. ( I wonder how/why I even have it )
Guess it is time to do some house cleaning,

I think that dreamweaver is the best of the wisywigs out there as it does write proper HTML and can even clean up word HTML. It also doesnt add stupid empty tags and extra lines of HTML. Although i do still prefer using a text editor such as textpad (includes useful syntax highlighting i.e. Missed end " youll find it easily!!) It can also write C++ etc. It has useful add ons that you can download from the site.
I use notepad, dreamweaver ultradev and Fireworks... BTW I heard that CuteHTML has spyware in it :p
I'm using exactly the same as "ac1dsp3ctrum"
Notepad mostly but then i'l mess with dreamweaver and fireworks is top notch for graphics, banners, picture editing..ect
I use Dreamweaver, but first I learned HTML from some books.
I can't believe you didn't include 1st Page 2000 from Evrsoft in the poll. It's by far the best editor I've ever used (and I've used a lot in the last 4/5 years, from WYSIWYGs to plain text editors), with full syntax support and highlighting. Much better than Frontpage which just makes a total mess of your code or Dreamweaver which punches a massive hole in your wallet before you've even started building a site.
didn't include...cause i didn't know about 'em...now i do...had a look at their site...looks like its a pg package...almost too good for freeware...i wanna say what's the catch??...
i love the touch on their site...they have <buy> link..which leads to a page which says...
"If you are here to purchase 1st Page 2000, please go back. 1st Page is free and requires no licensing fees. If you would like to use 1st Page 2000 for use in educational institutions, corporate enterprises or government houses you are free to do so. "
gotta like that...free is good...i might dl it this WE and play with it at home...
i'd add it to the poll but i don't think i can edit it...
One that's been missed, and is more than just an HTML editor: EditPlus. I use it for everything here, and I write ASP, PHP, Java, C, HTML, etc... It's got a LOT of useful features like vertical selection, great code highlighting, etc., etc..
It's worth checking out if you write a lot of code.
big fan of Homesite. pretty much nothing you can't do with it. also a big fan of Textpad.
BBedit is ok. just never fell in love with it though.
yep..it's always winning editors choice awards....homesite is CF Studio's little brother...both made by allaire...before macromedia bought them...Quote:

i can't wait to get me hands on Macromedia ColdFusion 5 UltraDev 4 Studio (could they have picked a dumber name...
they've rolled CF Studio into ultradev which should make it kickass...
WYSIWYG....no way. I tried Dreamweaver, it had too many options for me, its sometimes easier to do a simple command in html than using dreamweaver. For all who think html is a programming language, it is not. It is a formatting standard. To edit html, i use any text editor readily available. So if Im on linux, windows, or mac, I can still create web pages. Tell me any wysiwyg that can do that.
NoteTab Pro (http://www.notetab.com )! An excellent multi-purpose text-/HTML-editor with many features and an easy but powerful scripting language. Free NoteTab Light is almost as good but haven't got syntax highlighting.
for windows: intermania htmlpad... http://www.intermania.com/htmlpad/index.html
for linux: Advanced editor... same as notepad but with syntax highliting...
So I use Advanced editor most...
I agree, advanced editor is *almost* perfect. I use it all the time for development (mainly when I'm programming in Perl or PHP), it's quick to load and hasn't crashed yet (unlike every editor (WYSIWYG or not) that I've used in Windows!).
MATRIX Y2k it's an awsome html editor get it at www.digitalice.com
I think it's the best editor around and it's FREE!!!!!!!!!!
mostly i use notepad because of its fast loading time. other times i use Crimson Editor. it has a nice GUI.
thats all
It seems that you just have to go with what you are used to and can work well with. I prefer using a mix of wisywig and text editor.
even tho am prolly going to get flammed for this am afraid I still use frontpage for the main bulk of site and then fiddle with the code a bit myself....i used to write all my own html in notepad but i find it too time consuming now and only edit it myself to add the finishing touches etc
v_Ln
I know m,any ppl who swear by frontpiss!! So your not alone!! Just think about joining the FPA (frontpiss anonomous)
I stopped using notepad, and started to use EditPlus. Nice to have some syntax-coloring and the possiblity to open more files in one program :)
"notepad" while in winders..."joe" while in Linux
I just bought a 40gig Seagate Barracuda IV so I have plenty of room
I have Dreamweaver...Fireworks...Photoshop...Flash...ColdFusion...various ULead programs...Adobe GoLive...InDesign...PageMaker...FreeHand...Macromedia HomeSite 5(my fav second of notepad)...LiveMotion...Premiere 6.0...it's just that I have so many programs to learn...that I scare myself and stick with what I'm familiar with...notepad...
and by the way...may I get some input on my site??? sorry if I'm plugging it all the time but I need constant criticism(constructive I hope)...

it's nothing special...couple of links and pictures...but that's about it...please tell me your thoughts...if ya wanna email me...use the link under my baby picture on the front page...thanks guys!!!
Hey Alexel...How's it goin'?
i use frontpage
Joe is a pretty cool editor, but Vi is way better IMO.Quote:
#1, that baby picture i thoroughly disgusting, some kind of warning about the nature of the content of the site might've been nice.Quote:

#2, I don't really like the layout of the site. It's pretty basic and nothing really make it very pretty.
#3, You have one hell of an annoying javascript. Try not forcing windows on people and you'll get a lot farther.
Yer same sort of criticism from me! Your layout Is OK and fine and dandy but it does look a bit odd! try losing the cell borders!!
Generally, I use dreamweaver 4 in conjunction with a program called "Topstyle".
Topstyle is kind of CSS-Editor better than dreamweaver's built-in editor. you can validate your css online or offline. i don't like frontpage because of the fat code it produces.
Draemweaver is the best so far but it is good to know a lot of HTML
Well, I think we all know what the 6 people who voted for 'Other' use:

I use FrontPage in Windows, assorted text editors in Linux (and some other program that I can't remember the name of) and I use notepad, or KEdit for the final tweaking of the code, and for JavaScript, although I use FrontPage's code editor for JavaScript usually cause it highlights things different colours so I can easily see where I am!!
