why do you need to spoof your IP while sending mail ......
Indeed, the only reason why you should want to do this is spamming or something else illegal.
Yeah usually people don't care about their IP being sent with their emails unless either they are sending a message where they don't want to be tracked, or they want to try to have the blame be put on someone else for the email sent.
Truthfully if someone had the time and resources, they could sit and track you down, even if you were able to spoof your IP. It doesn't take a rocket scientist, just the time and logs of all the servers that were "hopped" to and from.
My suggestion, and I think I speak for a lot of people here, is try not to find ways around the system. Just be a good little user and play by the rules as they have been set forth!
Thank you,
AciD
ok i'll tell you how to spoof you IP , you just need to send a mail over a different server :)
Oh, BTW, this is again somebody posting in an antionline related forum.
skynet74, this is for questions about antionline not about security/hacking/programming/...
And hiding your IP-adress when you email is quite simple, but I'm not going to tell you how unless you prove you don't have any malicious intentions (wich is really hard)
Srry I posted this is in 2 different posts but I noticed it when I had already posted my previous messsage.
  i don't understand why u guys say that, i just want my message private, and i think that is not spamming at all , and of course i'm not a fuxx lamer!!, just someone want his privacy in his message, thats it!
Thanks to all
Alex
Unless you have some real bad friends, why would you need to hide your ip in your e-mail. Am assuming you e-mail list consist of friends right! Oh BTW your ip is not a secret, if they want to get they are going to get it.Quote:

Am just wondering, what's the real reason why you want to do this? Otherwise from what you have already mentioned, I don't see why you need to do it...
Too much paranoia can drive you crazy....
Just my thought on things...
Maybe he just wants his privacy protected. If i were you, i would use a public proxy server of some sort. The only problem with this is thatsome mail servers do not allow use of public proxy's. A program to help protect your privacy is anquest.
p.s. guys come on give him a break, maybe we can start given ppl bennifit of doubt before we start giving moral lessons on an innocent question. Its not like he asked how to spoof a message.
so u guys say there is no way to hide ip in a mail ,then privacy is getting lost, and that is not paranoia at all pplss think about it!!

edit - What the ***** is so hard about answering this guy ? if he uses this service to make death threats or something really bad ,he will get caught . Get off your high horses and get over your uber morality .Does every thread need 12 people whining and 2 people answering? (sorry but i am tired of seeing people gang up and jump all over people for simple questions)
hey,
maybe its sounds to easy but,
an bullshit hotmail would do the trick? , if u have one ... from maybe another site, excite, yahoo, etc, etc, fill nothing but crap in certain fields and no-one will know its u...
NULL
for example
whoisnull..... see if u can locate me
thanks to all the ppls try to help me, and for the others, think about privacy!!!! and think that all of us have to help each others
Alex ;)
Oh good God!. You better be glad I've given out too many points today!
hushmail.com
You even connect over secure shell.
There is a way which i dont know....but just like AciDriveHB said that people dont care about it
I have to agree with lumpyporridge here... although this thread is in the wrong place :/
*Thread Moved*
E-mail sent with Hotmail *does* carry your IP... so does Yahoo...Quote:

Locate you... all people have to do is click the 'Users online now'-link on the AO main page, Whoisnull... :/
Here's a very basic article that tells you what you need to know, skynet74.
Remember though that it's an American article, so laws described in the article may not apply to your country.
*Ahem*
You people are telling me you would post to any mailing list or group without hiding the IP? **** iv got friends that got board and traced my IP and told me where i lived from posting to a mailing list. Then they told me which ones i posted to (didnt they Prodikal :) )
Damn some times you people forget your here to learn and HELP not assume a buncha **** about someone and ASSUME they are doing something bad. If he was a spammer he would know the tricks of his trade.

Why exactly is a thank you extremly negative?
skynet74 I am sorry if I sounded harsh. Yes maybe we should give people the benefit of the doubt these days and not always assume the worst. I think it's just because the previous few months have had a lot of people posting threads that really did sound like they were only trying to do "evil".
It is true that people want privacy, but honestly there is no way to really hide your IP when doing anything online. It can be tracked, as I stated before. Though why honestly do you want to spoof your IP? Just for privacy sounds a little too shady, and some of us kind of take answers like you gave as some sort of BS answer to get us to help you out and do wrong.
I think guys we do need to give a helping hand to people who ask us for one. If they use it for wrong, then it's them who will have to pay the price because they will get traced. Gore and other have brought up good points.
Sorry I got off track there a little, but I thought it was something that needed to be said.
Peace be with you,
~AciD
Even easier i hear the hotmail and yahoo give free email accounts out nowadays thatll mask your IP pretty well
www.hotmail.com
www.yahoo.com
Well I have a Yahoo! account, and to my reccollection, my IP has never been masked in any way shape or form... but I could be missing something.

well i thought the point was sending anon email ...yahoo I thought didnt show your IP adress........but I could be missing something
Why not use a remailer there R some on the net. But Why would U want to hide your
ip in mails. Hmm...Something dirty!! plz tell me UR into spamming the @h*t out of ppl.
MemorY said it best.....if you wish to hide your IP.....use a different server. In the US, that is easy to do. Simply buy a prepaid ISP disc, and use the 800 number option. Set up a bogas e-mail account with hotmail, yahoo, excite, or one of the many others.....and no one will, or can know who you are. Unless you tell them.
Don't understand why anyone would want to though, myself.
Im just going to assume that you have no malicious intent ..But If you plan on doing spamming runs , forget it , it's stupid and illegal . But this is a site where you learn things , so the thing to do to send mail from a different ip would be to first find a wingate , then telnet to a mail server and send it through there. But something like that is probably illegal , so don't bother. And by the way , don't rely on 'progs' to do all the work for you , setup a linux box with a mail server and learn how to use smtp or something.

Yeah it is possible but how I don't know that(heheheheh)
He asked how to mask his IP... prepaid ISP disc or not, it'll still show your IP :/Quote:

Both Hotmail and Yahoo *do* show IP-numbers.
People won't know who you are (unless your ISP tells them), but they *will* get your IP...
It will show 'A' IP, but not one that is in any way connected to you. The pre-paid ISP's do not even have your name and or any information on you. It will show you are in Il. somewhere (the location of the 800# server). Anyone can buy them, and all you need then is a telephone and a computer.
With, a bogas hotmail account, you then could send anything you wish, with out anyone ever connecting you to what has been sent.
Personally, I can not even imagine what anyone would need that type of camo. for that was not of malicious intent. It would be the same as posting a letter, from a town miles from you with out a return address.
i donno why ppl so eager to say dat hiding ip is not a easy task...u can always do dat ...but thea r sm rules dat has to fallowed to do it ...so not a tough one but must ensure security..of ur server.....
You could use an anonymus mail server combined with a proxy server. But like said before, if someone wants to track you, they will, even if you use the above.
So to answer your question, I think you can't hide your IP.
The only way to hide your IP is to not use it (now that's a tip, isn't it ;) ).
Thanks to all pplls out there! now that i know is truly impossible mask my ip i will send my mail with pgp than i'm sure that the content will be unredable
Bye
Alex :o
If I'm not mistaken (and I do that a lot :D ) the ISP keeps logs of the time period you are online together the telephone number you used to dail in.Quote:

So if you would set up a pre pay ISP account, make some dummy e-mail, sent your mail and never use that account again, they could still track the IP of your account and thus through the logs your telephone number, even if you haven't told them anything about you, they can still track you is you used your phone.
So the telephone you are using to dail in plays a role too.
Ok, I apolgy for my perhaps rude/brutal reaction in the beginning of this post.
After all, not everybody has malicious intentions and he didn't ask how to do something malicious.
Sorry skynet74, hope you found an answer to your question!
Not illegal...yet. I think one state has some restriction laws. I personally don't think it should be illegal but that is another point/thread.Quote:

There are "anonymous remailers" just type that and variations in google. There is also something called "chained proxies" that are available. Both are dynamic, meaning they may exist today and NOT tomorrow. Those are the easy ways, you can also shape your packets, meaning you physically change information in the packet it's self. This method requires programming knowledge (unless a little kiddie downloads a tool), knowledge of the TCP/IP stack and knowledge of SMTP.
There are VALID reasons to do this kind of thing. Anonymity - it's that simple. Maybe you want to stress an opinion of a government agency or policy within an organization and NOT have the message traced back to you, for repercussions. Maybe you are a member of an organization that does not tolerate "whistleblowers” Also maybe your find out your brother or neighbors is KILLING people. And you want to talk to law enforcement without them tracing it back to you. Or maybe you are a member of a drug cartel and you want to come clean. WHO KNOWS, open your minds and realize that everything is not Black or White. Some people are terrified of privacy in this country because we are LOSING it, very slowly, and know one bats an eye.
Peace man, use a remailer, it's the easiest. Still traceable but DAMN hard and unless you are selling Nukes, chances are no one is going to waste their time on you.
In the case that I read your character wrongly am sorry skynet74. I just like playing it a bit safe before I give out information of that content.
The other guys have made some valid points and I see where they are coming from.
Anyway I hope your question was answered to the fullest and sorry for the first impression analysis.
Guidance...
Utter the magic phrase to the Godess Google and all shall be revealed.
"Anonymous Re-mailer"

Only if you are using your own phone! Try using a table phone in a truckstop/ with a data plugin. Airports offer data line plugins, as do some rest areas (service plazas on the turnpike). So the phone you use can be generic as well as the IP.Quote:

But, I also owe an apology to skynet74 . While talking with afriend of mine about this, he mentioned that he had sent a non-complementry e-mail to then Pres. Clinton. He was audited by the IRS with in 3 months, and re-audited the next year. Privacy does have its merits.
What type of connection do you have? I mean if you are still using 56k then dont worry about someone getting your ip because they are not static IPs. every time you sign n to a 56k you get a new ip. right? The only way they could trace you from there would be to get your ISP logs and see whop had that IP at the time th message was sent. so using the pre paid isp disk that was suggested earlier would work.
xtc46 even if u use 56k modem.. your entries would still be logged in ur ISP's logfile.......
Infact in India our Police had tracked a Hacker who was trying to hack the websites from Cybercafe....
Hence what u r suggesting is not foolproof.........
Regards
kalp
Thats why you use a pre-paid cellphone on your laptop to dial. When you're done, smash the phone and dump it(They will triangulate your ass like they did Mitnick if they want you bad enough but you musta done somethin VERY NAUGHTY if they want you that much)
