I was reading this article on global warming (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science....ap/index.html) and it is already an issue but I want to hear opinions. Do you think this issue will expand more than it already is?

Global warming is bullshit. If they can convince enough people that
we are facing the potential of global environmental catasteophe,
then 20 centuries of progress in human rights can be trumped
by the "emergency powers" and drastic measures that will be
necessary to prevent the extinction of all life.
The rights of the individual won't count for dogshit in the face of the
witch hunting, hysteria and hunger for raw political power.
It's fascism, pure and simple.

Actually rcrgreen...Global warming is a posibility (If you haven't yet noticed the heat?) because us humans are destroying the O-Zone layer (mainly females) with hair sprays and etc. The O-Zone layer is what protects earth from the powerfull sun rays (at least a bit because these sun rays are very powerfull) from us and since we are destroying the O-Zone layer our protection is decreasing leaving you more and more vunerable to the suns rays.

Oh come on... because freon from air conditioners and refridgerators had nothing to do with it...let's not forget the evaporation of chlorine from, oh, I don't know.... drinking water? Let's see... oh yeah, don't forget volcanoes, nitrogen (damn those cows),...umm CO2 (don't breathe)...solar winds...pretty much anything that has an aeresol propellant...Quote:

but let's go ahead and blame it on women.

Sure why not? I'm talking about things we can control for example why must women always wear hair spray........?

We don't need to put chlorine in our drinking water.... that will help. Don't use anything that has any kind of aerosol propellant (deoderant comes to mind)..cheez whiz, WD-40, spray paint, etc.
Blaming it on women only makes it apparent that you are not willing to admit your own responsibility for the environment.

Yes spray paint I just mentioned one item (hair spray) and mentioned that that is something women use mostly. How does deoderant effect the O-Zone layer?

Its not deoderant or hairspray its self that affects the ozone its the gas that is used to propell it out of the can.

I'm with rcgreen
I think Global warming is pretty much a bunch of BS to sum it all up.

Stating that Global Warming is bullshit, is just as much bullshit as stating that it is a fact.
There's no way to prove either one of them, since afaik (trustworthy) temperature measurements are only being taken since 150 years ago or something.
But there are facts (which I'm sure some of the "God created the world and everything in it 5,000 years ago" people will deny by saying that it's bullshit), and the fact is that the Ozone layer is getting thinner. Ask Bush, and ask Alaska.
There's nothing you can do to convince people like some of those in this thread... scientific proof doesn't mean **** to them. All they'll say is "it's bullshit" :D
The worst thing is that they actually believe themselves...
Glaciers are melting, the global water level is rising. Is that a problem? Who knows... it's happened before, and we've survived...

Hey bullshit works
its fast and easy no thinking required just say bullshit, then off you go. lol

Well, I think that most of your have got it right in part.
1. Global warming is certainly happening...........or at least climatic changes are.
2. To suggest that it is a result of human activity is BS, there are much more powerful forces at work.
About 10,000 years ago, where I am sitting right now was under about 200 feet of ice..........it was the Wurm glaciation (sorry, can't do umlauts :) )
The cliffs round here are chalk...........created in a warm tropical sea...........today, if the big yellow helicopter doesn't get to you in about 30 minutes you are history?...........the sea is a LOT colder.
There are coalmines nearby, coal was created in steaming tropical rainforests in the Carboniferous period...........sandstone, laid down in desert conditions?
Negative made a very good point that we don't have the data to project accurately..........we do have historical and geological evidence though. Charles Dickens mentions "ice fairs" on the river Thames in London..........the river froze solid in those days (late 1800's) it doesn't now. In the 1300's the monasteries round here (N.E. England) used to grow grapes and make wine, so it was a lot warmer then?
I would suggest that a lot of people are confusing pollution (which we are certainly responsible for) with climatic change, which is a natural and ongoing process?
Not that it matters, but part of my BSc. Honours degree included meteorology and climatology, so I have studied the subject in some detail, and long before the topic became "fashionable"
I guess that Negative has the right idea on this one, (about 350 years actually, but rather sporadic for the first 200 of those)
Cheers
Mind you........."blaming wimmin".........:)

I believe the most compelling evidence that we have a cyclical climate on earth is rather firmly based in logic.
Off the top of my head I believe we have had 3 ice ages. Logically if there were three ice ages then there would have been "warm ages" between them..... or we would have had only a single ice age and we would still be in it...... The test also remains viable even if we only had a single ice age since the blame is being placed upon industrialisation and population - neither of which could have been considered a problem at the end of the last ice age.......
Case closed....... :p

At the same time there is nothing wrong with taking some moderate precautionary steps to reduce poisonous substances into the air. I state MODERATE because industrial society cannot just "step back" to a preindustiral state without consequences that far outweigh the danger associated with depletion of the ozone layer. We just started to measure it in the last few decades, for all we know it's been depleting for centuries? The glacier that flattened out the midwest melted millions of years ago. Perhaps the Global Warming incident started then? Even in modern history of recorded local climates, a day doesn't go bye when I hear "Today it will be 70 degrees, far below the record set in 1878. There is nothing conclusive.

I still believe it's partily our fault (the humans) that the O-Zone layer is getting thinner every day. All of this new "techonology" (a majority of it) is affecting our O-Zone layer. The deoderant I use isn't out of a can nor have I seen canned deoderant but that's not the point. There WILL be a point where you can't go out in the sun because of the Suns rays for all those who say it's bullshit why don't you prove your statment. Anyone can say "That's bullshit" but none of them can prove what they are saying.

Perhaps you don't realize that significant changes have been made since the 80s. Propellents are often ozone fiendly these days. There are definitely certain chemicals that aren't but most of the time their very ingredients are more harmful than the propellent. I remember when alot of products were phased out while propellants were changed.
Ozone Depleting Chemicals and US stance.

global warming = longer growing season = more food for everyone not to mention the increase in oxygen. the earth is changing again.
i seem to remember weather changes a few decades ago were blamed on the atom bomb. if there's a pattern it looks like it's 'when things change blame something for it'.

global warming = water level rising = flooding some islands/parts of continents = lots of people with skin cancer = empty beaches and outdoor pools leaving the outdoor pool people out of buisness till they make it indoor = obligation to driving a car because of the strong heat rays
too long a list..and besides there are some crops that grow in winter I believe or if not in warm areas. global warming brings more consequences than it does anything else. and the fact is global warming is comming sooner or later we might not be alive when this happens but scientists are already looking for some missing ice glaciers.
And RoadClosed most companies don't really care about the O-Zone layer all they care about is selling their product. A great portion of the sprays on the market cause the O-Zone layer to get thinner.
