The carpet is an earth tone almost a brownish/violet. The windows are clear single pane glass. As for the person who sent this to me, he is the owner of the building and would not have altered this image. He first thought that I was messing with him, and he wasn't very happy about it either.

Thanky very much Darkes.... yes your point about size is something I wanted to try and get across with the second avi. Really it was just to proove my point that the thing on Aellisons avi could not ever be from a laser pointer. I have tried reflecting the laser directly at the lens - it's similzr to pointing the laser directly at the lens and obliterates about 98% of the picture. I don't know if you know much about the dynamics of laser light but it doesn't scatter as much as normal 'torch' light and so reflected laser light is almost as powerful as direct laser.Quote:

Hi RoadClosed :) - I guess some kind of diffusion filter over the camera would reduce the laser emission (after all thats the point of a filter) but I can't test that as I don't have any suitable filters to hand at the moment - I'll see if I can lay my hands on something. But yeah I agree with you the movement of a laser pointer does require an amazingly steady hand (which I obviously do not have! too many cigs and coffee) or holding device. I don't know as it's out of league but it obviously is another factor that I feel tends to rule out the possibility of this being a laser pointer.Quote:

Surprisingly I find that I have been at AO about as long as Aeallison! I'm fairly sure that he's not trying to pull a fast one as he's only ever been posted good stuff as far as I know.... so Aeallison you have my vote of confidence as to your sincerity. On the other hand I can, to an extent, see what Streik and Steve are saying.... don't wholly agree with them but I can see their POV
I have to admit that I think the ball lightning phenomenon gets my vote so far - it can produce some extremely freaky results e.g. such as passing through a sheet of glass and leaving the glass unbroken. Most often ball lightning is present after thunderstorms or in areas of high electrical activity but it has been noted to occasionally appear without any obvious cause such as a lightning strike.
Aeallison - if you do ever spend the night there and if this thing turns up would you try and see if you can smell ozone as that's frequently present with ball lightning

Now that you bring this up, there have been several times I have entered the store in the morning that I did smell ozone, I passed it off as just being from one of the many electrical devices in the store, I have even gone to the trouble of smelling the various computers and such to try to locate it and have not smelled it at any device, it just seemed to linger in the air. I remember I first smelled this as I went through the archway into the back room. Now I am thinking that the ball lightning theory may be more than just a theory. Ball lightning does happen here quite often. But does it travel so slow? I have never witnessed any myself, but have talked to many who have. This makes more sense to me though than some paranormal event.Quote:

I too have been leaning towards the ball lightning theory but there are a couple of questions in my mind that pause me when I consider it. Let me pose these questions to you.
1. About midway across the room..the Orb seems to suddenly increase in speed and move sharply then making several other eratic movements before appearing to disappear behind a wall at the doorway. Is this kind of erratic movement indicitive of known cases of Ball Lightning? Over the last 24 hours, I have been unable to verify a single report of Ball Lightning where it has been reported that Ball Lightning moved flowingly through a room making turns and movements without some physical intervention ...In all cases I have read (about 40 now) Ball Lightning only changes direction when reflected by striking objects with which it contacts..Of course that is not a definite statement that Ball Lightning does not react in this way..only that it is, to my limited knowledge not documented in any cases I have discovered and it has never been known as yet to travel in other than straight lines...The prescence of the smell of Ozone or something like it is common in many BL cases...
2. Why does the Orb change direction at all? I have two schools of thought on this. (a) the object is very light and a breeze or draft could reflect it, Allison has told us that it is very cold and I would assume that there is a furnace running that may produce such a draft or at least enough air flow to push a lighter than air object, or (b) There is some kind of intelligence at work that I personally do not understand. I do not know which could be true without further observation and more data.
The Ozone smell may very well be something...but how often is this smell around and associated to BL? hasn't there been reports of smells like ozone and sulphur reported in paranormal cases as well? Let me qualify what I'm saying. I for one am a pretty staunch non-believer in the paranormal and I can usually explain these things in some scientific or logical fashion. This one has me bewildered. I have had a lot of opportunity to interact with Allison also and I believe that he believes in the voracity of this event so I therefore believe in it as well to be truth...I am however, befuddled but I definitely stand behind his honor and truthfullness in every way. My own observations of this video tell me by the way the object reacts to the light and the way the pixellization appears over the object and the obvious fact that the object has a definite motion blur attached to it that the image I am seeing is the image that the camera saw in the space that it was in...I however am still uncertain as to what it could be...My mind is still open (The jury is out)...We may have to resign ourselves to the pitiful fact that there may never be an answer to this kind of thing.....

yes to both of these - I've only ever witnessed ball lightning (BL) once and it is really weird stuff - however one of the most notable things about BL is that it can travel slowly and it can have erratic movements. About the only thing BL has in common with your normal lightning is electricity. Now I'm not claiming to be an expert or have extensive knowledge of this phenomenon so I can't say for sure that this is BL - but at the moment I am thinking it is the most likely explanation. I think Gore's link on page 4 is one of the better links on the subject and I understand that Tesla made some interesting experiments in this areaQuote:

Incidentally as far as the paranormal goes in most cases I am reminded of AC Clarkes famous saying
'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.'
and the logical extension of this is that the majority of 'paranormal' phenomenon are simply natural events that we do not currently understand. Having said that - I think there is a small proportion of events that may well be 'paranormal' in the truest sense of the word.... as to if this is one of them - I suspect not but who knows.....

Heh, watching all those horror movies, and watching all those things on ghosts, paranormal activity, and being interested in ball lightning, and now I can help with the AO X Files lol. Glad I could help ;) I think we all agree now that it's either a ball lightning or a ghosts plain and simple.
What I am about to say is because Aeallison is right, some people really are TOO scepticle. If you don't believe in anything, and doubt everything, why wake up? It isn't like you have anything to look forward to that YOU believe in. You'd be the guy in the movie that get's eaten by zombies because your punk ass won't believe the people running up to you and warning you.
Just because it hasn't happened to you every day does not mean it can't. Paranormal is not a word meaning common. Have a little faith once in a while. It doesn't hurt to believe. Regaurdless of if you like it or not, strange things happen. The supernatural exists.
Monsters like Frankenstein may not be real....Yet... But Lycanthropy is now a documented phenomenon. :)

As for explaining this... I still haven't been completely satisfied, my hopes are to catch our little ORBLING at least once more. maybe the next time we will be much more prepared to capture it in action.

Most of the people who post there don't know any more about the paranormal than I do, but there are some who do investigations. Somebody will have an answer if there is one.
This is a great thread, although I am sceptical of occult items, I am not without curiosity. But what makes this thread great is the interest factor of the subject and everyone cooperating and experimenting to find the solution or some sort of conception into what the object or energy is.
