I guess you're right, there's no point anymore in this thread, actually it's 2 threads in one, the original topic and the discussion about my idea. I wouldn't know where to go with my idea so there's no use in discussing whether it would work or not.
Wow is this thread long. I don't think there is really an issue about whether the poster is a new person or a long time AO poster. It has to do with the idea and the level of effort/commitment/acceptance that would be required.
Can a virus free internet be made? Yes. It most certainly can be made. How? Only allow 100% trusted hosts to contact each other. This leads to the next part can you trust any host 100%? Only if the OS itself is unexploitable. Currently this isnt' done.
I believe what you're intending to invent WILL work, but that is just an assumption on my part. The main problem I see is, the internet is HUGE. You can't simple replace the internet in a day. Imagine if someone devised a way to make a car, that could drive itself. This car would be safer. There is a problem with this car though. Although it can drive 100% safely, it cannot co-exist with human driven cars. You can't simple create a second set of roadways for the new cars. You can't simply mandate all human driven cars stop being used. The internet is the same way. If you make a secure one it has to be able to interact with the current internet. You can't simple ditch the current one or people would have to have 2 internets in their house till everything they wanted was on the new one.
Also, the only way to guarantee no virus propogation is to make everything proprietary. You can't let someone else make your product and expect them to adhere to every single detail. They'll miss something and an exploit will be born.
The internet is designed to allow anyone and everyone to do more or less anything on it. If you want to setup a server at your house you can do this. To protect against propogation would most likely remove this freedom aspect.
Security is an ever pressing battle between access and no access. Perfect security would allow people to get what they need and not what they don't. This isn't really possible and the noose around the neck of the network is always tightening and loosening.
So, my general thoughts about your virus free internet is that, it is possible to be made, but its not a feasible idea to be brought to market in this day and age. Too many things have to change for it to be possible. Your idea is only as strong as your weakest link and that means you would in turn have to more or less replace every component that is currently known as the internet.
Now, I hope we've gotten the whole "This is impossible", and "You're an idiot, people said space travel was impossible, then it happened," over with.. We just might be at the slightly non-critical stage of "You don't know it until it happens," but you might prove me wrong on that one..I hope not though, or this thread could be, yet again, a pointless argument that people have to sift through for relevant information in the topic.
In any event, i'm open for your ideas gwbrowne40, I need to know what you would want me to code though, give me a PM saying a "general" idea of the platform/area this is dealing with, don't want you to leak your idea at all, I just need to know what type of coding is needed.

I am being contacted by members who are interested in joining and contributing their expertise and knowledge. If you are interested, which I have read several responses to contribute, please email me and I can start constructing a blueprint of who can do what and what I can do. Basically, the whole point of my posting this thread is to find individuals/minds to join into a team, edit the technology, implement and create a beta. In turn, with this, the final steps to the patent will be filed with all contributors name(s) on that patent. And for those of you who suggested performing a patent search, this has been done. We take our team armed with powerful patent(s) and search for funding. Whether it be the decision to become a subsidiary of a larger company or a privately funded ( my personal choice ) company, it will be a huge jab at viruses and the anti-virus industry.
The car metaphor which was envisioned earlier, let me revise that a bit--more of where I am going. Yes, the impulse logic would to be design something totally new but why do that when what we have is working, but just broken? For instance, when cars were introduced in the never-before-seen stylish curves and lights by Ford in the 40's, 50's and early 60's, they were just freakin awesome and cool, we could do things we couldn't do before, go places we could only hear from others. But the concept was a broken one although it was working very well, the cars didn't have safety features such as seatbelts and tempered glass and people were being killed, maimed by impacts on the inside cabs and sometime head decapitation by the razor-sharp glass when propeled through. Then they said, "What a minute...something has to be done to improve this fantastic new way of life". And they researched and researched until the 3-point seatbelt became the most efficient and comfortable for cars and people, glass was broken and re-broken until we discovered the process of tempering. And that is what I am doing. Instead of saying, " We need to redo it all, let's take a step back and improve a few things". No reason to throw the existing puzzle away...we just need to think outside the box and move cubes where it was most obvious--we couldn't see, 'cause we were thinking too hard sometimes.
And no, the world's problems cannot be changed in one day. I am preparing a way for this to work in segments. In many ways, virus-free internet, a new OS, cutting edge hardware, 56k to DSL speed and eventually my favorite, artificial intelligence.
So, from this point foward I am going to be getting in touch with interested members. So, what I would really like when you email me, to tell me what you do, what you are experienced in and what you would like to do with you experience and knowledge. That better help me assess who I would like to talk to and if you aren't living in the SouthEast area, I will be making plans to fly out to meet particular people. I am not here to BS anyone as some might think. I have been working far too hard to be pulling legs around this type of site. Either way, I am absolutely enthralled to be reading how your minds work and I have to say that this has been the most interesting group of intelligent minds I have seen in discussion. I saw that you make another thread on AO in May 2003. ( http://www.antionline.com/showthread...040#post623040 ) where you ask a question about how to remove a BIOS Password. This makes me wonder if you are really a knowledge person in computer science or you’re just a very skill in convincing peoples with good writing and oral skills.

Actually we can. Since your preprocessor directive #include and your program is reliant on the header file <stdio.h>, it is possible to exploit your program by corrupting the header file. :DQuote:

I think that one way to eradicate, at least the negative effects of viruses. Would be to re-think the way computers work. May be something along the lines of, have everything stored in Rom. Maybe a computer that boots from a rom chip. Then every app held in a rom module that could be loaded as required. Hot swop modules that you just slip into an interface and use. All working stand alone. Store data as required with read only attribute to hdd.
Just some random thoughts.
