IMHO I would say, Linus Torvalds.
I would have to say Dr. Teresa Sullivan. She was my favorite teacher in the Computer Science department at college and the one who taught me the most. She never gave up on me and called me even after I graduated to see if I was still studying computers. She is an old school programmer from New York who has been programming since the early 1960's. If it wasnt for her I would probably never have figured out C++ or Visual Basic. She is one of the best teachers Ive ever had.
graxpel what has carolin meinel done to earn your respect?
Lets summarize, she wrote a number of books which contain nothing but Windows Tricks found in many computer magazine, introduction to Windows books and websites, information on how to use the most mediocre and simple to use network utilities ie) ping, IRC logs (yes her new book is full of IRC logs), and blatant straight out lies. I happen to be mentioned in one of her books and the reference is absolutely false. What else has she done, oh yes made a horribly designed webpage which contains pitiful self-promotion, old news and blatant lies and slander not to mention countless javascript errors. Her comments have been denounced time and time again by representitives of the information security industry. She has never had any formal training and has never done or said anything to even suggest she knows anything which she preaches. She has time and time again backstabbed those who trusted her and she in general is a complete moron. Her stupid happy hacking contest doesn't teach anything to anyone other than how to brute force passwords. Obviously graxpel, you are willing to leach on to anything with a webpage. You are pathetic, unknowledgeable and do not use "sun tzu" in the proper context. Your avatar represents you well, fat and dumb.
Ok let me say some about a few
JP has 0 education and I doubt he has skill, don't flame me on that one.
I would rather do an ongoing debate on it.
Meinel does have skill, you people keep forgetting she's a ****ing engineer and far more qualified then anyone of us. She knows a lot about electrical engineering.
Woz is also a good suggestion www.woz.org has everything you need to know.
Steve Jobs, well I will leave that to you. Woz has a link to Steve's bio page.
Capn Crunch ( a personal friend of mine) is also a very interesting person. He has done so much **** like the Blue box. They will make a motion pic about his life soon, you can read about him at www.webcrunchers.com/crunch.
He still hangs out @ Woz allmost every day and has a company working on OpenBSD www.shopip.com
Also a very important character Pete Shipley, he has done a lot for the hacking community, providing T1 connection for hackers out of his own pocket. He has a website www.dis.org
And last but not least, Rop Gongrijp aka Hacktic, one of Hollands leetest and founder of HAL/XS4ALL and the magazine Hacktic.
He has several sites, www.itsx.nl/www.hacktic.nl
Well, I chose to use Linus Torvalds. But my teacher didn't know he was, so I told her he was a great computer programmer. "Oh," she said, "Why not use Bill Gates?"
1) I respect the fact that she is willing to help sponsor and link to other sites that sponsor wargames. It's the only LEGAL way to hack into a box that doesn't belong to you. (Besides getting permission from the owner and sysadmin yourself)
2) I happen to have a copy of "The Art of War" and the reason I chose the particular quote that I use is I train in Budo Taijutsu (which is based around deceiving your enemy). If you want a page number/paragraph of where I got it, by all means, let me know.
3) My avatar is Snorlax. Yes I'm a 24 year old pokemon fan. I am also a father of two and thus have a tendency to enjoy things that some other adults would consider to be too childish. I don't care what other people think of my avatar.
4) If Carolyn Meinel put you in one of her books, I would be more likely to believe whatever she wrote about you than whatever you claim is the true story. "Why," might you ask? Because your posts on these boards have been full of ignorance since about day 1. (Note your AntiPoints ratings.)
5) If you think I am "unknowledgeable" then you are more ignorant than you seem. I feel sorry for your pathetic attempts at attention on these boards and hope you someday wake up to realize that noone is impressed here.
Good day.
But then again, it's hehbr.. I mean DEBRIS
I know who you are.
If it's script kiddies you people like to refer to then look @ him.
Well, IMO, there are so many sides to the conflicts that follow this pattern. Insert what you want within the angular brackets.
"<JP/Meinel/Gibson/The PCHelp guy vs Lockdown200> has no knowledge and lies in everything they do. They are also <character judgement.> It has been shown many times that they <inexperienced or lying>. They are <insulting thing involving attention-craving>."
Please, who can really know all of it? Half the time the 'proof' either side flaunts is really just a series of quotes taken entirely out of context from diverse times and places. I'm not going to take a side, because I don't want to dedicate half my life wading through all the either excessively verbose or unsubstantiated crap that one side or the other tends to throw.
Choose the First!-Charles Babbage
bit late now but why not steve jobs the reason ur sitting in front of a gui based os is because of him ( i think correct me if im wrong and sorry all those *nix users) and microsoft comes along and stole it and a court found them guilty so u can see the infamous gates hasnt really had a new idea since dos 1.0 even then unix was a better command line based os im not to sure of the history of what came fist somthing i need to learn so dont flame me on that
