every program that communicates with a modem uses AT commands...just look in a ppp chat script ATDT5555555 or watch bbs software dial....hyperterminal
well....you can trick the remote modem into giving itself the hang up commang by including it in the data sent with a ping command, it would echo it back. of course you could cause your own modem to hang up if your not careful.
