a null- modem is a seriel cable. but a direct cable connection can be done with a parellel cable with much higher transfer speeds.
That does present a problem - are you sure the partition table is gone? Habe you looked at the drive through the likes of partition magic? It /might/ be possible to install an os into one of the partitions that doesn't contain your important data and access it through that - i've had success accessing ntfs partitions through linux when windows couldn't get at them - pretty ironic.
I have tried partition magic but it proved no results. I found some more recovery tools but i don't know if it will work. I have some full version software also but the problem is that it only works for FAT filesystems. :(

BTW: No operating systems can see any partitions or files. I just need recovery software. That finds it i just need one that recovers files of unlimited sizes. Or one that could restore my partition tables.

Having just looked at the site i see they have a remote recover tool for doing this sort of thing over a network (and no, i don't think you can do it over an ide chanel, it uses a nul modem cable or ethernet)

Unfortunately casper, any of the specialized tools i've came across that can recover partition tables and other low level stuff cost a fair bit of money, i think you'll have a hard job finding much free or shareware products that will work effectively - if you do hear of anything i'd like to know.
On that note, am i correct in thinking you work repairing/installing computers, i seem to remember you mentioning that (could be wrong though) - anyways, if you do - try getting your employer to stump up the cash :-) Disk commander from soft solutions is a good tool - only $800.
Try Rebooting your machine...then while its booting up press F8/Delete (I'm on a Win2kPro machine...With me you do this when the logo is up...not before, or you go into NetBIOS where you edit everything). But when you press it it'll move you to a screen and ask you if you want to load up from the "last origional safe settings" (or something of that effect). Try that...if nothing works, simple shutoff the machine without saving anything...Goodluck on your quest though.
This also happened to me recently...I only lost one drive though - my W: ...(Writeable for my burner). This actually happened two days ago. And I wasn't bothered to do anything about it (heh...). But I'm thinking if I just get myself a copy of Partition-Magic from a friend or something I might be able to make another one...

--> NetBios is a Network protocol used on small networks to communicate, it's one of the favourite exploits on MS systems cause when open you can use all the shared devices like C:\ etc.
However it was never intended to be used on the big evil net.

my OS's wont even see any of the files, or the partition tables. My hard drive lost the partition record and the table of contents.Quote:

BIOS wont do anything. It sees the drive and periphials and lets you set them but it won let you do anything to them. Except some will let you do a low level format.
